Sculptor and mixed media designer Guus (Guz) Vriens was born in Tilburg in the Netherlands on 31 December 1948. Sports, especially volleyball, played an important part during his childhood days. He then developed into an assessor of aesthetic design and spatial planning through which an interest for sculptures and other forms of art in the public domain emerged.

After various sculpture-oriented workshops, he went on to study Sculpture in 2010 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk from which he successfully graduated with a specialization in 2015. In the following period, he started working in his own atelier on sculptures and Object Trouvé, in both wood and stone. Movement, emotion, playfulness, and the nature of various materials became important subjects in his art. In 2018, he curated and co-participated in the exhibition “Transition” in the basement of Plan B in Eindhoven.

Throughout his journey as an artist, he explored various methods of sculpting, including ‘carving’ in recent years. A desire to discover and work with different materials has been a continuous theme throughout his artistic journey. It inspired a lot of his work throughout his Sculpture art studies and also led him to start studying Mixed Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk in 2022. The combination of these different disciplines create an intrinsic sensitivity that is expressed in his more recent works.
